GETTING HERE

NEARBY AIRPORTS

Ensenada does not currently have an airport, so the closest are either Tijuana or San Diego.

ARRIVING BY CAR

If arriving from Los Angeles or San Diego, you will first need to travel to Tijuana in Baja California, Mexico. There are two routes from Tijuana, the fastest is via the toll road towards Tecate, but the coastal scenic route is also an option.

The 3 nearby border crossings are San Ysidro, Otay, and Tecate. The Tecate border crossing is the closest to Mira Earth Studios, but we recommend checking the closest one to your route as well as the current border crossing times when you are on your way. You can check border crossing times online or through the Border Traffic or CBP Border Wait Times apps. Be prepared with your passport and any necessary travel documents.

MEXICAN INSURANCE

Ensure that you have Mexican auto insurance, as U.S. insurance may not cover you in Mexico.

AIRPORT TRANSFER

Airport transfers are available from Tijuana, San Diego and LAX airports. We use a reliable company for airport transfers for all of our guests. If you would like to book a round trip airport transfer for your visit to Mira Earth Studios please send an email with your flight information and the number of guests to concierge@miraearthstudios.com We will confirm your booking within 24 hours. Please note that cash payment in Mexican pesos or US dollars is due in full at the time of pickup and will be made directly to the transport company.

PARKING FACILITIES AND POLICIES

We offer free on-site parking. Guests are responsible for safe vehicle operation and parking on our premises. We are not liable for accidents, damages, or losses related to driving or parking on our premises. Please exercise caution, especially in adverse conditions.

CAR RENTAL OPTIONS

We recommend having a car to maximize your stay in the area. We recommend renting a car either in San Diego or Tijuana Airports.

ARRIVE BY HELICOPTER

If you want to arrive by helicopter, please let us know to help you arrange the service. This service is possible from Tijuana, San Diego and even LAX. Please note that if crossing a border, you will first need to make a quick stop in Ensenada to pass through immigration before continuing to the Valle de Guadalupe.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

If crossing by foot, we recommend either Otay or San Ysidro ports in Tijuana. It is generally a simple process. We recommend typing “Garita de Otay” or “Linea San Ysidro Peatonal” into google maps, apple maps or waze.

Please keep in mind that it is generally quicker to cross later in the day, as mornings get congested with people crossing for work.

RETURNING TO THE USA BORDER CROSSING

CAR CROSSING

If you have Sentri or Global Entry, then the quickest way to cross the border is via Otay or San Ysidro Ports in Tijuana. The easiest way is to put “Otay Sentri” or “San Ysidro Sentri Lane” into google maps, apple maps or waze.

If you do not have Sentri or Global Entry, then we highly recommend that you cross at the Tecate port as it is generally less crowded and easier to find your way into the line, whereas the general ports in Tijuana are complicated and stressful to navigate.

Please keep in mind for both options it is generally quicker to cross later in the day, as mornings get congested with people crossing for work. You can check current border crossing wait times online or with the apps: Border Traffic or CBP Border Wait Times.

SUSTAINABILITY AND ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES

HOTEL'S COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

RAMMED EARTH WALLS

The room walls are constructed using an ancient technique called rammed earth. Soil collected from the site is compacted in a formwork. The result is a thick wall with thermal and fire-resistant properties.

GREEN ROOFS

We collaborated with specialists to install green roofs and landscapes with native plants. We collected and propagated seeds on the ranch to blend the rooms with the surrounding environment.

WATER TREATMENT

We’ve implemented an aerobic system that injects oxygen into blackwater tanks, where it mixes with natural bacteria to obtain clean water. We then treat this water with UV light and ozone for use in toilets, green roofs, and landscaping.

LOCAL PRODUCTS

We’ve stocked the minibar with regional products.

SOLAR LIGHTS

At our hotel, we take pride in our commitment to sustainability, and a portion of our landscape lighting is thoughtfully powered by solar energy, reflecting our dedication to eco-friendly practices.

DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE

ARCHITECTURAL STYLE

Mira Earth Studios was designed by the Nicaraguan Architect, Juniette Bermudez. The minimalist design aimed to provide a serene and tranquil space that harmonizes with the environment. The goal was to seamlessly integrate the studios into the landscape and blend with with the use of rammed earth walls and native plant green roofs.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Many of the interior design elements were designed by us and fabricated using local Mexican artisans. For example the firepit, bedside lamps, bedside tables, bathroom sinks, bathroom stool, kitchen countertop and sink were all custom made for us. We also worked with other Mexican designers to source the furniture, Oaxacan ceramics amongst other elements in the room.
